In this conversation, we will go through what it looks like to write for online magazines, specifically, as it pertains to covering culture topics, personal essays and the intersection of the two. Covering the pitching process, through writing drafts, editing, publishing and promoting your work afterwards, we’ll look at just what goes into doing this kind of writing in 2022 as culture items move quicker than ever before, and attention is something we have to fight harder than ever for. While this is an hour-long session, time will be set aside for a Q+A period with attendees to answers questions. Attendees will hopefully come away with: ● A better understanding of the process of writing for online outlets ● A realistic expectation of what to expect with this kind of work ● Ways to measure the success of your work that are not financial

Niko Stratis

Niko Stratis is a freelance writer whose work tends to focus on culture, trans identity and often the intersection of the two. She regularly appears in outlets such as SPIN, Xtra, Bitch and more and has a recurring column in Catapult titled Everyone Is Gay, which explores personal identity of a closeted youth through 90s music and 90s music media criticism. When she’s not writing, she’s extremely online on Twitter or singing original songs about her pets very loudly. She lives with her fiancé, two cats and one dog in Toronto. She is a cancer.
