In this interactive session, learn about the funding programs at the BC Arts Council that are relevant to writers at all stages of their careers. After a brief presentation, Michelle Benjamin will answer questions and provide insight into the world of arts funding.

Michelle Benjamin

Michelle Benjamin is a Program Advisor at the BC Arts Council with primary responsibility for literary programs including book and periodical publishers, literary festivals, and creative writing. She also co-manages the Early Career Development and Professional Development programs. Before joining the BC Arts Council, Michelle lived on Gabriola Island where she was the Executive Director of the Gabriola Arts Council for almost ten years. Michelle’s background and first love is book publishing. She was owner and publisher of Polestar—a small literary press—for ten years; she was publisher at Raincoast Books in the 2000s; and before moving to Gabriola Island was Project Editor at Greystone Books. Michelle lives in Esquimalt, and is grateful for the privilege of residing on the traditional and ancestral lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) people.
